I am quite taken with this painting. Not sure why. Completely by accident I discovered that this painting, and many other works by the same artist, are up for auction with barely a day left to bid. Someone buy this one for me? Afremov.com website.

ShortFormBlog: Thoughts on Tumblr and Yahoo (in rebloggable form, upon reader request)

shortformblog:

obitoftheday asks: What do you think happens if Yahoo buys Tumblr? And why do we all agree that it seems like a bad idea?

» SFB says: I think Tumblr starts monetizing itself more effectively. For years they’ve tried to do everything but the obvious, but the problem is, they’ve turned down…

The Book Devourer: Fairy tale origins: Rebloggable version.

seananmcguire:

The ask: “I think one of the main reasons why people have this “White girl princess” attitude is because most of the really popular fairy tails originated in Europe, which is shockingly where white people are from. There are so many great fairy tails from plenty of other…

The thing about cultural appropriation is that the appropriator does not have to face the same consequences that we do for practicing our culture or faith. For them, it is an accessory that can be taken on or off at will, while for us, it is a way of life. …in a society where immigrants and communities of color are marginalized at every level, we can’t pretend that power relations do not exist when we have this conversation about appropriation. Sharing and exchanging cultural and spiritual practices is great, but it gets more complicated when we’re not all on equal footing. It gets more complicated when meaningful things are taken, commodified, and exploited for a profit, with little respect shown to the community they were taken from.

S3E8: “Fae-ge Against The Machine” liveblog.

First - apologies, I’ve been spelling “Kenzie” wrong, according to some folks who reblogged. I’d seen it spelled a few different ways and am glad someone pointed out the error.

Anyway. Into the episode. Not much to say about this one:

I feel like this is slightly like when Deanna Troi was preparing for something - or maybe it was her mom? - anyway.

I’ve noticed it before but not commented on it, I think - I like the way the title sequence a) exists and b) starts out as that gorgeous drawing then fades into regular shots.

“When in doubt? Always go with leather.” Girl, I am so with you.

I feel like this moment in the bar is the one that started @NYPinTA on the question of why Fae don’t understand that Bo’s aligned with humans? Balzac is kind of annoying on the level of Vex, eh.

I’d like to see a moratorium on the phrase, “This is me….” (doing whatever). The minimalist in me objects strongly.

Blonde evil fae kind of reminds me of Callisto from Xena in this field scene.

That’s all I have to say for this episode.
